The Beadles Guild was formed in April 1992 by twelve beadles; these few
men where not originally from the great twelve, they set a few rules and guidelines to give structure to a newly formed guild.

On the formation of the Guild all Beadles’ with halls would be entitled to full membership and Beadles without halls would have associated membership. The decision was not based on seniority or class but practical good sense at the time.

The main reason why the Guild was formed was Esprit de Corps among Beadles of the City, to have quarterly meetings and where ideas could be exchanged and social occasions involving our partners. There were never any aspirations or motive to elevate our presence within the City and we are known by those who matter better to infamous than famous.

As time went on the types of membership came under scrutiny as Beadles within the City wanted to become members, Some Beadles with out halls felt there should be no distinction between the membership for Beadles with halls and the membership for Beadles without halls, this proposal was put to the Guild, voted on and carried.

Livery Companies have now risen to 114 and the Beadles Guild is some 75 strong representing 83 companies. Members come from all walks of life however mostly from military and police backgrounds (military years 744, police 522 years).

 

The Guild now has a GPC made up 15 members including the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer and the other 12 members are made up of Beadles with halls and ones with out.

This guild was formed by Beadles for Beadles, of the livery companies of the City and give us a forum to meet, discuss and have functions for members and our partners.
