Alex South the Assistant beadle to the Haberdashers and the Beadle to the Feltmakers started out on his varied career serving the RN in ships and submarines within the Catering Services Branch. Joining the Royal Navy as a boy (16) in 1988 i spent the next 3 years patrolling the waters off the coast of Antarctica. Then a short spell with the fisheries protection squadron lead to my selection for submarine training in 1993.

Various Patrols within 6 different submarines across many different theatres filled most of my Career, in between my deployments to sea I was selected to become a instructor at the Royal Navy supply school, HMS Raliegh, Plymouth and it is here that I passed on my extensive front of house knowledge to the future of the RN and competed in Salon Culinare catering competitions winning gold for my team and being best in class.it is of the back of this success that promotion was awarded and the opportunity to help head up the Royal Navy culinary display and education team traveling the length of Britain helping to educate schools, professional sports teams, Scotland RFU and local councils and authorities in culinary skills, feeding to fight and the knowledge to promote a healthy balanced diet regardless of surroundings and welfare. Again, having been promoted Chief Petty Officer I returned to sea on the biggest ship the Royal Navy had HMS Ocean as the Chief Caterer helping to support the aid effort in and around Somalia.

On leaving the Royal Navy I have run my own business in property management. I have been selected to project manage the building of 300+ flats over 3 sites within the UK for homeless veterans, and project managed varying projects in the nuclear sector and within RAF bases helping the Defence Infrastructure Organisation maintain its outputs on the MOD framework.

Alex lives in Limehouse London. He has three grown boys David (37), Daniel (35) and Macauley (29). Alex’s interests are Peterborough football club, football in general, Darts and Rugby. History, walking, and travel take up most of his spare time.
