Matt joined the Worshipful Company of Firefighters in 2021 and was admitted to the Livery in 2022. Demonstrating an early commitment to the Company’s governance and membership development, he served for two years as Vice-Chair of the Membership Committee and currently holds the appointment of New Members Liaison Officer. In 2024, Matt was elected to the Court as a Court Assistant and appointed as only the Company’s second Beadle in its 36-year history, reflecting both the trust placed in him and his dedication to its traditions and administration.

Beyond his Livery involvement, Matt completed a distinguished 32-year career within Hampshire Fire Brigade, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

His operational experience spans frontline firefighting, Fire Control operations, and leadership as a temporary Station Manager. In the latter role, he acted as the Service’s lead Project Manager on a national programme to replace all operational communication radio systems, overseeing complex stakeholder coordination and critical infrastructure transition.

Following his retirement from operational service, Matt retrained with Vraxis Safety Solutions as a Fire Risk Assessor. With the company’s continued growth, he assumed the position of Training Centre Manager in 2025, leading the development and delivery of professional fire safety training.

Matt has also contributed extensively in voluntary capacities, including as a Trustee of the British Fire Services Association (BFSA) where he has been the National Chairman and is currently the Vice-President.

He has also served as a Parent School Governor and as a Search Technician with Hampshire Search and Rescue.

He is married to Michelle and has two grown-up daughters and a stepson and is a lifelong suffering Tottenham Hotspur supporter.
